11/01 - Dean Schimpf's Visit to the Studies Abroad Program in Costa Rico
In September, COAS Dean Martin Schimpf visited three University Studies Abroad
Consortium (USAC) program sites in Costa Rica - Heredia, Puntarenas and San
Ramon - with 16 administrators and faculty members from across the United
States. Boise State was integral in creating USAC over 25 years ago and continues
to send a significant number of students abroad each year on USAC programs.
As a result, visits such as these are conducted to continuously assess current
programs, meet faculty and
on-site administrators. Dean Schimpf indicated:
"Being able to see the students in action, in order to see the quality of the programming and activities; and to visit with students in order to hear from them directly about their experiences, their impressions of the program, and the impact it was having on them was very beneficial to my work with students."
Corrine M. Henke, the Boise State representative on the USAC Board of Directors indicated, "As a member of USAC, these programs are important education abroad options for Boise State students. The new site in San Ramon is being established to send more science students abroad, and we feel lucky that Dean Schimpf was able to take time out of his schedule to participate in this visit."
